Toshiba unveil the Encore Tablet, 8-inch display running Windows 8.1 for €299

Toshiba are entering the 8-inch tablet market with full Windows 8.1 running inside. Announcing the Toshiba Encore tablet during IFA in Berlin. The new tablet will include specs such as an 8-inch IPS diaply with 1,280 x 800 resoltuion, the latest Intel Atom (Bay Trail) quad-core cpu with 2GB of RAM. connection wise we have usual Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi b/g/n/, 3.5mm headphone/mic jack, MicroUSB and finally a MicroHDMI port. The internal storage is 32GB 64GB with a MicroSD slot available for expansion.  The tablet also comes with dual mics and a 2MP front facing camera for video calling on skype or other programs.

The tablet is set to be available for €299/$330/£250 and will launch sometime around November. Check out the press release/full specs and gallery below for more info on the new tablet.

With a distinctive style and durable, ergonomic design that was made to travel, the Encore is optimised for use in portrait mode and easy to handle in one hand. All speakers, microphones and cameras have been placed outside of the area where the tablet is commonly gripped, so users can comfortably tap the multi-touch screen, listen to music, take photos or have a Skype call without affecting performance. The thin, lightweight design is ideal for users wanting to read an e-book or watch a movie on the go.

 

Office essentials for productivity on the go

With the full version of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 inside, users can make the most of the programs they’re already familiar with for a consistent experience anywhere and use the Encore as an extension of their primary PC. Full versions of Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013 and OneNote 2013 are included to boost productivity on the go, whether it’s reading, editing, creating or sharing documents and presentations. Seven GB of free online SkyDrive storage means files can be stored in the cloud for fast access and synchronisation with other Windows devices., plus it’s easy to attach an optional Bluetooth® keyboard for added convenience. All powered by the latest Intel® Atom™ architecture, the Toshiba Encore delivers a fast, fluid performance for enhanced productivity and creativity on the move.

 

Instantly available and always current

Right out the box, the Toshiba Encore is ultra-responsive and ready for anything.  InstantGo technology means the Encore wakes from standby mode so it’s almost instantly available for use. Even while the tablet is sleeping, connected standby maintains network connectivity and syncs automatically, so all contents are constantly refreshed and up-to-date. With InstantGo to lower power consumption and extend battery life, the Toshiba Encore is efficient on the move.

 

A range of apps and features for anywhere entertainment

With a bright 20.32cm (8”) AutoBrite™ display, the power of Dolby® Digital Plus

 

through high-quality stereo speakers and ultra-fast Wi-Fi®, the Toshiba Encore was built for mobile entertainment. Microsoft Xbox is a pre-loaded app, featuring a free music streaming service for 90 days unlimited access to 30 million songs as well as a selection of free Xbox games. Users can even share their favourite content between screens, by transforming the tablet into a second display for the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, using Xbox SmartGlass. Full-screen web browsing is also much quicker, thanks to the new Internet Explorer 11. It’s optimised for tablets and built for touch, making it easier to load web pages and stream videos on the 20.32cm (8”) display.

 

Optimised for Skype, the Toshiba Encore also comes with advanced camera features and dual beam-forming microphones with noise reduction for greater sound clarity during calls. An 8.0MP rear camera and 2.0MP front camera are built in, so users can have clear video chats on the move, or just point-and-shoot to capture perfect photo or video moments to share with family or friends. Connectivity options include micro-USB for transferring data, micro-HDMI® for connection to larger screens whether at home or in a meeting, and a micro-SD slot can also be used to expand storage or share content with other devices.

 

The new Encore from Toshiba will be available in Europe during Q4 2013
