Sony and Panasonic today have announced plan to release a new optical disc to provide larger capacities and long-term storage. The current plan/road map aims to release a 300GB disc sometime in summer 2015 with both Sony and Panasonic planing to expand the technology and increase recording capacity to 500GB and then 1TB.
