Amazon Alexa now officially supported in Ireland

While technically the devices were already capable of being shipped to Ireland for some time now, Amazon is now officially supporting Ireland with their line up of home voice assistants. This includes the access to all of the skills currently available within the UK, and some native Irish skills avaialble including RTÉ News, Dublin’s FM104, Irish RadioPlayer and more.

The idea behind Amazon’s echo device is rather quite simple. It’s a voice assistant for your home, which gives you control over other smart devices e.g Philips Hue lights, Nest, Netatmo, other heating devices, blinds, TV’s and much more; all with just your voice. You can also play music and radio stations and when using the Amazon Echo or Echo Plus, you get pretty great sound.

Amazon are also enabling developers to access Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) to build skills and software for customers in Ireland.

“The customer response to Alexa and Echo across the world has been incredibly positive, and we’re excited to make them available to customers in Ireland,” said Jorrit Van Der Meulen, Vice President, Amazon Devices International. “Customers can just ask Alexa to provide information, play music, make calls, send messages, and use thousands of skills—including locally-developed skills from developers including RTÉ, Irish Radioplayer, Ryanair and more.”

We have included links to all the Echo devices ready for purchase to Irish customers below. It’s worth noting that Amazon routinely have discounts on Alexa devices, and generally have multiple units at a discount price avaialble consistently.
