Mobile World Congress has just started and the announcements have already begun. LG hit the ground running and announced their next Flagship device, which has gone a different direction that’s its modular predecessor; the G5.
The G6 from LG includes a funky new 5.7-inch IPS display with 18:9 ratio and 2,880 x 1,440 resolution. This makes the device feature a longer shape with more screen vertically. Odd on paper as it may seem, the extra real estate on the display actually adds a lot to the functionality, while still allowing the device to be held comfortably in your hand. LG are including some UI specific extras to take advantage of the longer display, and Android itself also seems to fit nicely with the new ratio.
The Display also boasts Dolby Vision and HDR support for extra colour range. The design has different from last years device, with LG no longer providing modular support in anyway. However, the device does come with an aluminium frame, Gorilla Glass 5 back, and sports IP68 water/dust resistance. Oddly enough the display only uses Gorilla Glass 3, but does have a chamfered LCD that adds impact resistance, or so it’s advertised.
Inside the device we have Qualcomms Snapdragon 821 chipset with 4GB’s of RAM. Sadly it’s not using Qualcomms latest 835 chipset, but should hopefully still offer excellent performance. Battery is a 3,300mAh capacity and is non-removable. Storage is either 32/64GB, with MicroSD slot for expansion.
The rear camera sensor, or should we say sensors, are 2 x 13MP sensors with one rocking an f/1.8 aperture, and the other having a f/2.4 aperture. Similar to the iPhone 7, this allows for extra zoom without the loss of quality. On the front we have a single 5MP sesnor with f/2.2 aperture.
Lastly the device measures 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm, and weighs 163g. It features USB 3.1 Type-C, and has a fingerprint reader on the backside. Google Assistant is on board and working 100-percent. We’re likely to start seeing the new AI assistant from Google reaching more and more devices. The Korean version of the devices features a Quad-DAC, while the US version doesn’t and instead features Wireless Charging. Some regions will also include an FM Radio.
The is no details on availability or pricing just yet, but we don’t expect to be waiting to long for it to arrive. We know it will arrive in White, Black, and Blue, or some degree of those colours.
