Reports have been circulating the internet with shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 being halted due to an issue with the battery inside the Galaxy Note 7. It’s now been confirmed that Samsung have issued a recall on the Galaxy Note 7 due to battery related concerns.
Three Ireland customers have already reported receiving text messages asking them to shut down their device, and to return it.
We will update this article once more information is shared, and how exactly this will affect customers going forward.
Update
Samsung have officially given confirmation that the recall is in effect globally. The following statement was released.
“Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note 7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.
To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note 7.
For customers who already have Galaxy Note 7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.
We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.”
The recall is already in affect with many retailers are advising customers to return the device for a full refund. Some customers are also being advised that they will be contacted directly with further information and the best plan of action.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 was looking to be the most successful launch of a Samsung device in recent years, but that has of course been greatly hindered and will see a massive blow to the sales of the Note 7 in the future.
