Samsung Galaxy Unpacked is underway and the first big announcement is the Galaxy Fold, the first official foldable device from Samsung,
The new device was originally showcased late last year during their developer conference, but the device design was concealed in a bulky case. Finally we have the official announcement.
The Galaxy fold includes a small 4.7inch display on the outside of the device for quick on-the-go usage, but the main feature is when you unfold the device and are met with a much larger 7.3 AMOLED display.
There foldable nature of the device includes a lot of software feature to make usage more comfortable, and the continuity aspect means that when you navigating an app on the smaller display, simply unfolding the device continues the app on the larger display.
As previously announced, the Galaxy fold will support multi active window and allow the user to use 3 apps at once. The on-stage demos showed YouTube, Whatsapp and Chrome running at once.
The Galaxy Fold features aot of custom and very well engineered parts, which include the very durable display (has to be since there is no glass) and the gear system for unfolding. The thickness of the phone when closed is 17mm at it’s thickest, but drops to a nice 6.9mm when opened up.
The display will definitely get a huge amount of attention for the new Galaxy Fold, but the device itself also includes a massive list of amazing specs, including the latest 7nm processor from Samsung, along with 12GB’s of RAM. We also get a total of 6 camera sensors with 3 on the back and 3 on the front.
The new Samsung Galaxy Fold arrived on April 26th with pre-pre orders going live fairly soon. Pricing is a bit a of a sting, but mostly expected. Costing $1,980, this makes it one of the most expensive smartphones avaialble. It will arrive in multiple colors including
