Review: Socket 2011 Intel Core i7 3960x, Intel x79 Chipset

Conclusion

So Intel introduced Sandy Bridge E and with it the 3960x. The fastest processor they have ever made and that is a fact at this point. Considering all the results are miles ahead of anything else in the game and that is at stock. The results bring us the overall evidence that Intel are the kings. The 3960x simply proves that Intel know exactly what they are doing and that they want us all to know exactly that. The new 2011 socket also brings with it the newest chipset which own it’s own has a few draw backs such as no USB 3.0 support which entails the use of a third part USB controller, Intel of course have their reasons there. The fact remains that the newest socket increases everything from memory bandwidth to actual size of the processor itself and no to mention the giant gain in performance.

While the 3960x brings with it the best performance we have ever seen on a processor, it also brings with it a massive price tag at around €900-€1000. That being said, there is no doubt that the performance of this processor shows in the price and that if you need the best performance all around then simply put your money will get you exactly that and the 3960x is exactly that. The is no doubt that the 3960x is an amazing piece of technology that includes a manufacturing processes that Intel have perfected year over year.

While performance is the main aspect of the 3960x and that is where it shines. The removal of the integrated GPU, which to be honest will only affect those that will use it and if you are buying this level of performance CPU there is little chance that you will even care about that one aspect of the CPU. There are some heavy thoughts on the future with Ivy Bridge and will it deliver better performance. The question is simple now. What award does the 3960x.

Straight up it is the Gold award. There is no doubt as the level of performance this delivers is not seen anywhere else and at stock this processor is nothing short of a beast. This processor will cost you but that is expected for the level of performance you get. Intel have nothing more but to be proud that they have delivered this fantastic piece of hardware and that they remain the kings of performance.
