Review: Kingston Wi-Drive

Conclusion
The main aspect for this device will be for either and iPhone, iPod or and iPad of which these devices do not have the ability to add a memory card. The idea that the Wi-Drive is perfect for an iPhone/iPod/iPad. The fact they work for any device is a plus as there is also certain Android devices that do not have the ability to expand their storage.

The fact the battery only lasts 4 hours of continuous use means if you are out for extended periods the battery life will be insufficient. That being said, 4 hours should be long enough for most needs assuming you only connect to the device when you need it. The other concern is that the fact the device uses WiFi means that a lot of cases you will not be able to use this device on an aeroplane. This would be a serious issue for this that travel frequently and in the end makes the device useless for there needs.

The biggest issue I personally have with the device is something that simply is by design, when you connect to it by wireless you will no longer have an internet connection available.  This means that while you are connected to the Wi-Drive, you must keep in mind that you will no longer have internet access. The same can be said for a laptop or desktop if it requires WiFi for its internet connection, But to be honest, you can just use the USB cable in those situations.

Now this device is pretty straight forward and let’s be honest, it is designed for specific people with specific needs. So keep in mind that while this device on the basic side a flash drive with wireless and a battery. it is also a godsend for those with devices that have no way of extending their storage capabilities other than going the wireless route.

The Wi-Drive gets the GeekTech Silver award. The reason being is that while it has some use for certain people. It does still have limits of its own. Especially when it comes to a user loosing their internet connection to access the storage device. The other concerns are mainly based on preference and I would have like to see the possibility of some sort of memory card slot/s on the Wi-Drive itself to also access content on memory cards.

At the end of the day, it’s a gadget for those that need it and is a great piece of tech for those that have the need. Thanks to Kingston for sending this over.
