Review: HTC One X

The HTC One X is the king of the HTC One series of which there is three devices which are the One V, the One S and now we have our hands on the One X and this is a device to be drooling over. It brings with it the fast and powerful Nvidia Quad-Core Tegra 3 processor and of course the 4.7″ Super IPS LCD2. Now it wouldn’t be a new HTC Device if it didn’t have a Beats audio processing built-in as well. Now let’s dive right into the rest of the specs of the device from HTC. Also, just a quick note, because the software for this device is exactly the same as the One S, we will be using the same tests for both.

Specifications

  • Super IPS LCD2 720 x 1280 pixels resolution
  • Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core 1.5GHz processor
  • ULP GeForce
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB Storage (plus 25GB Dropbox)
  • 8 MP rear facing camera with Auto Focus and an LED Flash
  • 1080p video recording @30fps
  • 1.3 MP front facing camera with 720p recording
  • Stereo FM radio
  • WiFi b/g/n
  • Bluetooth v4.0
  • NFC
  • Micro USB with MHL
  • Beats audio
  • 1800 mAh Battery

So, what can we already tell about this device based on its specs. Well first thing is first it has a Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core and that makes it pretty much a king of the Android devices and with it the 4.7 inch 720p IPS LCD2 display is also nothing short of spectacular.

Now let’s take a look at the device itself.

Now the device has a near identical layout to that of the HTC One S. The bottom of the device has the three capacitive style buttons for Back, Home and Multi task. The buttons are all backlit enable and are fairly responsive.

The top of the device is the location of the front facing 2MP camera, the earpiece for phone calls and of course the HTC logo. The above side of the phone house the 3.5mm headphone slot and of course the power button.

On the back of the device we have the 8MP full 1080p camera with led flash. The camera has a slant design which is also similar to the HTC One S design.

Now because of this it suffers the same design flaw as the One S and that is that when the phone is resting on it’s back, the camera lens happens to be the bigger part and this puts it in danger of being scratched some way. This can easily be solved by having a cover on the device, but would make the polycarbonate material kind of pointless in the end. That being said, I think most people will end up having a cover anyway.

The left side of the device has the Micro USB connection which is also MHL enabled allowing you to connect up an MHL HDMI adaptor to connect your smart phone to your TV. This is a great feature for those wishing to watch full 1080p videos on TV’s.

The right side of the device we have the volume rocker.

The 4.7 inch IPS LCD2 display is nothing short of beautiful. It is easily one of the nicest screens out there and HTC certainly made the One X a series smart phone by including it. Everything from colour to sharpness to brightness is amazing and the screen is just beautiful to look at. The resolution of 1280 x 720p on this display gives it a PPI 312, this makes it impossible to see individual pixels and makes the overall display even more impressive.

  1. Cannot compare the video with that of the S3 as this is taken in a low light situation, pity this video was not taken near the river during the day so we could compare like with like

    1. I Will take another video in a similar fashion and update the review. It’s always good to have similar videos. I normally do, Will have it updated shortly.
