Huawei’s big P20 reveal is currently underway in Paris, and of course the big rumors were 3 cameras, with one being a massive 40MP sensor. The truth is here, so let’s dive right in and take a look, and yes, we have 3 sensors with the main camera being 40MP.
The design starts off with the now common dual glass and metal frame. The color is a beautiful and offers a Purple and Green gradient effect that offers something different than the usual dark or bright colors avaialble; Huawei are calling this Twilight. Sadly it’s like other glass devices, it’s very prone to fingerprints.
The P20 and P20 Pro have a lot of different bar just their size. The Pro features a 6.1-inch OLED display over the 5.8-inch LCD display on the regular P20. Both devices will include an 18.5:9 ratio and a notch at the top to house the massive 24MP selfie camera (Yeah!) and speaker.
The P20 Pro has 6GB’s of RAM and a 4,00mAh battery over the 4GB’s and 3,400mAh battery in the smaller P20. Both devices use the same Huawei made Kirin 970 chipset with Octa-Core processor and Mali-G72 MP12 GPU.
The Camera
So, the P20 and P20 Pro will definitely be taking things up a level with regards to camera abilities. More so the P20 Pro which will include 3 separate sensors on the back, along with a 24MP front facing camera. We’re also getting an AI controlled long exposure for taking longer photos without the need for a tripod.
The regular P20 will include a 12MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture and a 20MP Mono-sensor with f/1.6 aperture on the back of the device. This includes 4K video capture and 720p@960fps support.
The P20 Pro will include 3 different cameras, starting with a 40MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture & 3x telephoto lens, and finally a 20MP Mono-Sensor with f/1.6 Aperture. Huawei have also stated that the support for up to ISO 102,400 for shots in near complete darkness, and comparable to a high quality DSLR. We also get a color temperature sensor for setting your white balance automatically, along with the dual-LED flash.
The P20 is available now for €649 with 4GB’s of RAM and 128GB of storage. The P20 Pro is set to launch on 6th of April for €899 with 6GB’s of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Huawei will also be releasing a special Porsche Design variant with 2880 x 1440 display OLED display and up to 512GB of storage. That beast of a device will set you back a whopping €2,095 and arrives April 12th.
