Apple announce three new iPhones; the Xr, Xs, and Xs Max

The latest iPhones have finally been announced. The many leaks leading up to the Apple event were mostly spot on, and again this year we’re getting three new iPhones, all under the same X series.

The new devices from the fruit company are the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and finally the iPhone Xr. The latter is Apples newest device that is being oddly called more budget friendly, but still starts at over $700. Let’s just call it the cheaper iPhone X.

Let’s break down the new devices from Apple starting with the main flagships, which are the Xs and Xs MaX. The rumors of Apple going big weren’t wrong. The Xs  Max comes with a giant 6.5-inch display.

The smaller Xs will have a 5.8-inch OLED display with 1125 x 2436 resolution and 19.5:9 ratio. The Xs Max takes it up to 6.5-inches with 1242 x 2688 resolution. Both have the same ratio and 468 ppi.

The displays on both of these devices have a long list of amazing features. This includes, Dolby vision/HDR 10 support, 120Hz refresh rate and 3D Touch.  Apple clearly want to have one of the best displays on the market, and they have certainly gone in the right direction for that.

Apple A12 Bionic

Inside we have the latest A12 Bionic chipset. This includes a six-core processor with 4 efficient cores and 2 performance cores. This along with the 4-core GPU will offer a 40-50 percent increase in performance. We’re looking at a very fast processor and one of the first using 7nm manufacturing node. Basically, this will easily be one of, if not the fastest device on the market.

Camera’s

We still have 12MP sensors on the rear and a 7MP selfie camera on the front, but Apple have upgraded the wide angle and front facing sensors for faster performing ones.

We also still have Optical Image stabilization and improved True Tone Sensor as well. Sadly the Lens on the back still protrudes out.

Battery Life and other specs

While the battery capacity hasn’t been greatly detailed, Apple did state the Xs will get you around 30 minutes longer compared to the iPhone x from last year. The iPhone Xs Max will provide the longest running time of any iPhone with an hour and 30 minutes longer than the X.

The iPhone Xs and xs Max will come in Gray, Silver, or Gold colors. We also have storage starting at 64GB and ranging up to 512GB’s. While the device support fast charging, they don’t include them as standard. Definitely shocking since pricing starts at €1,150 for the iPhone Xs and €1,250 for the iPhone Xs Max.

iPhone Xr

The somewhat more affordable iPhone Xr is Apple’s way of bringing the X design and features to a cheaper class of device, but not that much cheaper. We still have an aluminum and glass made device, but again, the price would suggest a fairly premium device, just not as premium as their $1,000+ devices. The lack of home button also means Face ID is onboard as well. navigation is done by gestures as was introduced with the original iPhone X.

The device sports a 6.1-inch LCD display with 1,792 x 828 resolution. Apple are calling it a Liquid Retina Display, but the marketing aside, it’s an okay display, just not nearly as good as the Xs brothers. Apple have to save money somewhere afterall.

We also have only a single 12MP wide angle lens on the back of the device, which should offer similar performance to Xs, albeit without the other sensor.

The new A12 Bionic chip is also onboard, so you will be getting that blazing fast performance the other devices come with as well.

Another aspect of the iPhone Xr offering will that it arrives in more colors with Black, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Coral all being made available. Pricing for the iPhone Xr starts at €850.
