Apple Announces iPhone 12
The latest smartphone from Apple is now official, and this time around we are getting 4 new devices. The iPhone 12 is the largest offering from Apple in terms of line-up Let’s dive right in and check out the latest iPhone 12.
A change this year is the launch in October and not September that has been the usual setup in the past. Obviously this has been a very different year for everyone, so it makes sense.
Straight off the bat the latest smartphones from Apple will all include 5G connectivity. This also pairs with the latest A14 Bionic chipset from Apple which again comes in all iPhone 12 devices regardless of size or pricing.
It’s also worth noting that this year, Apple has decided to go environment-friendly, and they have removed the charger from the box and shrunk the iPhone box size. This was met with a bit of backlash as it mostly saves Apple logistical costs whereas moving to USB Type-C was recommend as the more environmental friendly way to go.
In addition to that, Apple announced MagSafe accessories for iPhone 12. The company has included magnetic strips in the back of the latest iPhone 12 series that will attract other MagSafe Apple accessories like the Wallet, phone case, and the wireless charger. This provides perfect line-up and attachment of accessories just by bringing them close to the back of the iPhone.
iPhone 12 Design
The Line up takes the design back a few years to the iPhone 4 days. We have a more the square edges with a flat frame. We large forehead cut out is still present on the iPhone 12 line up. The entire series is said to include better drop protection and water-resistance with up to 30 minutes at 6M with IP68 rating.
Let’s talk about the iPhone 12 cameras. You will be pleasantly surprised to see that these cameras have improved aperture, more vivid night mode, and more details in the HDR and Portrait mode with the latest Dolby vision for videos.
Let’s breakdown the new iPhone 12 models.
iPhone 12 Mini
One of the smallest iPhones you will ever see. The iPhone 12 mini is perfect for those who loved compact iPhones like the iPhone 5, but with the latest technology.
The iPhone 12 mini has a small 5.4 inches OLED display with 2×340 x 1,080 resolution. As we mentioned before, even with the much smaller form factor, the iPhone 12 mini launches with the same A14 Bionic chip as other iPhone 12 models with 5G connectivity.
The iPhone 12 mini contains 2 rear 12MP camera. We have a Wide 26mm lens with 1.4µm pixel size and f/1.6 aperture. It’s a Dual Pixel sensor with OIS. The second 12MP sensor features a 12mm ultrawide lens with 120˚ FoV and 1/3.6″ sensor.
Lastly the front facing camera is 12MP sensor with f/2.2 apeture and 23mm wide lens. It also has the second depth/biometric sensor for FaceID.
Other specs for the Mini include 2227 mAh battery, 20w charging, and 15 wireless charging. Storage options for the iPhone 12 mini are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
iPhone 12
The iPhone 12 features a 6.1 inches XDR OLED display with 1,170 x 2,532 resolution.
The iPhone 12 also contains the same 2 rear 12MP cameras as the iPhone 12 Mini. We have a Wide 26mm lens with 1.4µm pixel size and f/1.6 aperture. It’s a Dual Pixel sensor with OIS. The second 12MP sensor features a 12mm ultrawide lens with 120˚ FoV and 1/3.6″ sensor.
The iPhone 12 also supports 20w fast charging, and 15w wireless charging. It will be avaialble in 2,815mA
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
The iPhone 12 Pro features the same 6.1 inch XDR OLED display with 1,170 x 2,532 resolution as the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 Pro Max takes the display size up to 6.7-inches with a larger 1,284 x 2,778 resolution.
The camera’s on the Pro devices are mostly the same. We have 3 x 12MP sensors and TOF Lidar for depth scanning. On the iPhone 12 Pro We have 1 x 26mm (wide with f/1.6 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size and OIS), 1 x 52mm (telephoto with f/2.0 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, and OIS ) and lastly a 13mm (ultrawide with f/2.4 aperture).
The iPhone 12 Pro Max also features 3 x 12MP sensors and a single TOF Lidar sensor for depth. We have 1 x 26mm (wide with f/1.6 aperture, 1.7µm pixel size and sensor-shift OIS), 1 x 65mm (telephoto with f/2.2 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size and OIS) and lastly a 13mm (ultrawide with f/2.4 aperture).
Battery capacity on the iPhone 12 Pro is the same as the iPhone 12 at 2,815mAh, however the iPhone 12 Pro Max takes the capacity up to 3,687 mAh
