We have said it before, a cover could be the most important purchase you make after you pick up your new smartphone. Even the most subtle drops/falls can turn your expensive device into a paperweight. We always like to stress that getting a decent cover is an important step to keeping your device in tip top shape. While the Galaxy Note 4 includes Samsung’s best design yet, it will still suffer the same faith as most device if it slips out of your hand and hits the ground. For that reason we’re taking a look at some of the most popular covers available for the Galaxy Note 4.
Let’s get things rolling and take a look at the covers that we’ll be reviewing.
- Urban Armour Gear Maverick
- Urban Armour Gear Navigator
- Tech 21 Classic Mesh (Smokey)
- Otterbox Symmetry
Now of course there are a lot more covers available. Some more expensive, some a lot cheaper. These are definitely some of the most popular covers out there.
UAG
Maverick
Navigator
Otterbox
Tech21
Conclusions
Urban Armour Gear
We are really pleased with all the covers we took a look at and each offer a very similar experience. Obivously both UAG covers are identical beside their respective colors. They include the very same UAG design that we have seen before, with their build quality top notch. The only issues with these covers is the degree of difficulty getting them off. Surprisingly the white cover (Navigator) was a little easier then the Maverick, but not by much. We’re glad Samsung made strong enough phone, as it did sometimes feel like it was going to snap with the force of removing the cover. This may be an issue for those who swap their battery, sim cards, or are picking up a Gear VR which will not work with any cover on the device.
UAG are fairly consistent with their covers, and we definitely love their design and the protection they offer and it should easily keep your device in excellent condition.
Otterbox Symmetry
The Otterbox name is easily one of the most popular when it comes to device protection. The Symmetry cases is design to have decent protection without adding to much bulk to your smartphone. It also comes in an array of different color options for both the front and back of the cover. The cover is a hard case with rubbber inline that actually allows for easy enough installation and removal. Unlike the UAG cover, it wasn’t nearly a struggle to remove it. Protection is very much on the same level as the UAG. Design is completely plain, and bar the different color options available, it’s a fairly lackluster design. The color options will give users a decent level of customization, but ultimately the fairly high price tag at $49.99 isn’t dampened much by it.
Being a fairly expensive cover, the color options should be the main attraction for the Otterbox Symmetry and if your looking for a decent design and protection, we would probably recommend the UAG covers over it. That being said, the Otterbox will do a great job protecting your Note 4 should you choose it.
Tech 21 Classic Mesh (Smokey)
The Tech21 is a slightly different type of case, whereas the UAG and Otterbox covers are more solid, the tech21 is made up of a softer – more rubber like composite. The cover may not offer the same level of protection as the other. Putting the cover we were met with some issues with the edges lining up correctly and it would take some time to get it to sit perfectly.. The Tech21 covers include a harder material inside the edge – this is added to soften any impact the device may experience when normally dropped. We like the idea of this, but don’t think it will do as much as the hard cases should against impacts.
The Tech21 cover is a great looking cover and it doesn’t added too much thickness to the device. It’s a lot easier to remove when compared tot he UAG cover, but has it’s own issues when putting it on the phone. The Tech21 isn’t just another rubber cover and should do nicely to protect your smartphone. Sadly the cost is fairly high at €34.99, which will no doubt convince users to shop elsewhere, and in most cases we would agree, but in some cases the cover not adding too much bulk is a great plus, and it really is a great looking cover.
Overvall
Our favorite cover is easily the UAG Maverick, as it offers an beautiful design with an excellent level of protection. It’s also one of the cheapest covers among them. The Otterbox comes in next simply because it has a similar level of solid protection and lastly the Tech21, which only falls short on being less protective with a fairly usual high price for what seems like a slightly better rubber cover than the typical cheap ones available.
