Review: PS Vita

The way you access games on the PS Vita is quite similar to that of the original PSP. except this time there is no UMD drive and all games come on proprietary PS Vita game cards. These cards have an undisclosed storage capacity. They slide into the top of the device.

There is also the PlayStation Store, This allows you to download games and store them on your memory card. This is a good thing and a bad thing as it’s nice to be able to buy the game from home, but you have to keep in mind that some games will be quite large in size and use up space on your memory card.

Downloading a game on the PS Vita is no different then on say an iPhone or Android device. Just load up the PlayStation Store, look for the game, then just go right ahead and purchase it and the game will begin to download.

There really is only one game worth looking at and so let’s dive right in.

Uncharted : Golden Abyss

Uncharted : Golden Abyss is a prequel to the hugely successful series Uncharted. The events of this game take place before Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which was the first uncharted game to be release on the PS3. Uncharted: Golden Abyss was a launch title for the PS Vita and is the first portable version of the game.

Let’s jump over to a video of some nice gameplay.

Game play on the PS Vita overall is pretty enjoyable and the graphics are very impressive. The controls are extremely easy to use if you are either a PS3 or Xbox 360 gamer. There is a few usages for the touchscreen in the game and while some added functionality to the game for certain areas, the game could have been 100% button and analog controlled. If more games are like this in the future then the PS Vita will prove to be a great console.
