Samsung announce the Galaxy S5, features a 5.1-inch 1080p display, 2.5GHz quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM

Samsung’s press conference has just kicked off and straight away we have their brand new flagship device. The Galaxy S5 is official. The specs include a 5.1-inch AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside we have the Qualcomms Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2.5GHz quad core CPU and 2GB of RAM. The rear facing camera is a 16MP sensor with 0.3 sec auto focus. HDR and 4K recording @30fps, with the front facing side of things have a 2MP camera.

Specs continue with the S5 being IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. A built in fingerprint sensor directly in the home button, which works by simply swiping your finger straight down. the Finger print security can handle anything a pattern or pin code lock can handle across the device. Samsung also included a heart rate sensor next to the LED flash. Connectivity includes LTE CAT 4 (150mbps down and 50mbps up WiFi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac HT80, MIMO(2×2) Bluetooth 4.0 BLE / ANT+, USB 3.0, NFC and an IR Emitter for remote control.

Finally we have a 2,800mAh battery and dimensions and weight for the smartphone come in at 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1mm, 145g. The S5 will launch with Android 4.4 and be available in both 16GB and 32GB storage options as well as multiple color options and of course a Micro SD slot. Availability is set for April 11th in 150 countries with pricing to be announced closer to the release date.
