Samsung announce Galaxy S23 and S23+

It’s that time of year again, and of course we me another Galaxy Unpacked event. Since it’s the beginning of the year that can only mean another S series flagship is now upon us. The S23 is now official, so let’s not waste any time and check out the specs for the new Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+

Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+

Design and Chipset

The design this year takes ques from previous S series devices, but not the last couple. We no longer have the side chunk for the cameras, but rather 3 cuts cut outs. The frame is a rounded aluminium with flat display on the front covered in Gorilla Glass Victus 2, as well as the back. The phone is also IP68 water and dust resistant.

Chipset news is rather interesting as their is no longer Exynos vs Qualcomm to speak off. All S23 series devices come with the latest from Qualcomm, so no more performance differences between markets. The Qualcomm chips have been the better performing for some time now, so it’s good news Samsung is not forcing their Exynos chips on some markets.

The S23 comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 8GB of RAM. It’s easy to say you will be getting tip top performance from this chip and rightly so for a modern flagship series.

Display and Camera

The S23 features a 6.1 inch AMOLED 2x display with 1,080 x 2,340px resolution. It features a nice 120hz refresh rate and brightness up to 1750nits – up from 1350nits on the S22, so pretty significant increase. The S23+ is a larger 6.6 inch AMOLED with the same resolution and peak brightness.

The camera side of business include a triple camera setup.  The main shooter will is a 50MP/1.0µm sensor with f/1.8, aperture and 23mm lens. The second camera is an ultra-wide with 12 MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 13mm lens (120˚ fov). Lastly we have a Telephoto camera with 10MP/1.0µm sensor with f/2.4, aperture and 70mm lens. The selfie camera on the S23 is a 12MP sensor with f/2.2, aperture and 25mm lens

Video recording can be done up to 8K@30fps. A feature that has been around sometime, but never really had warrant for use, and still to this day is mostly wasted with the lack of 8k TV’s in the world. 4K@60fps is far better standard for recording and is of course supported as well.

Other features

The Galaxy S23 includes a 3900mAh battery – 4,700mAh on the S23+, up to 45W wired charging (USB Type-C), 10W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless.
