Sony announce Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact

Sony during MWC 2018 have announced their latest flagship devices coming to market this April. The new Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will bring quite a few changes to their previous line up of devices, and this is easily one of the more bold changes in design we have seen from Sony.

The Xperia XZ2

The larger Xperia XZ2 and new flagship for Sony will feature a 5.7-inch HDR display with 18:9 ratio and Full HD+ resolution, while the Xperia XZ2 Compact will feature a 5-inch HDR display with 18:9 ratio and Full HD+ resolution

The new display ratio goes nicely with the new design and curved 3D Gorilla Glass 5 back. The Xperia XZ2 features a metal frame, with the Compact sibling mostly polycarbonate. This is easily the nicest Sony device we have laid hands on. It’s IP65/IP68 dust and water resistant and will also include wireless charging.

The fingerprint sensor has also shifted to the back of the device, rather than the power button on the side. Lastly we have USB type-C, but no 3.5mm headphone back. Sony did mention that they will be including an adaptor for USB Type-C to 3.5mm with all devices.

Inside we have the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset with 4GB’s of RAM. For the Xperia XZ2 Sony are also including a new form of haptic feedback by giving the vibration motors some real juice and tying them in with the sound from whatever you’re playing, it definitely adds a similar sense compared to vibration in a controller when gaming and ties in well to the front facing stereo speakers.

The camera specs aren’t lacking in anyway, with the Xperia XZ2 sporting an 19MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and the ability to record 4K HDR content Both devices support 960fps slow-motion video at Full HD, over the 720p seen on previous devices.

Battery capacity for the Xperia XZ2 is 3,180mAh and the Xperia XZ2 Compact is 2,870mAh. both devices will arrive in Black, Silver, Blue and Pink, and should be available around April.
