Review: Sony Xperia P

Conclusion

Now it’s time to wrap up what the Xperia P actually is…

Well, first of  the biggest issue of the Xperia P is the fact it is a new device running old software. I’m still shocked to think Sony released a new device with gingerbread instead of waiting and getting ICS on it before release. This is no doubt a concern and while ICS is on its way for the device .That being said, again I must state like at the beginning of this review, there is nothing wrong with gingerbread and it’s still the most used version of Android available. Also, Android 4.0 is own its way for the Xperia P and hopefully it will perform on the Xperia P as well as Gingerbread does.

The camera on the Xperia P isn’t shy on performance. It doesn’t beat some of the other device we reviewed recently, but that being said, it doesn’t perform badly and gives out some nice shots with a lot of settings to be altered to your heart’s content and with a lot of people a smart phone is your main camera if not your only camera and its important to have decent quality at hand, that is exactly what the Xperia P  provides.

I do like the Xperia P, even though it’s a mid ranged device that wants to act bigger, at the end of the day, it does what it’s truly meant to do and hopefully even more with Android 4.0 whenever it is released for it. I can’t say it’s a bad device because it’s not, it’s just a device that is late to the party and everyone else is stuffed with ice cream(sandwhich) already.

If this was released a year ago or even 10 months, this would be a different story or better yet a lower price tag now. The device is priced at an average of around €400 and that is a lot of money for a mid range device, but it does pack some nice features like USB On the go, Micro HDMI with supplied cable(very nice). The fact the MicroHDMI is separate allows you to use the USB On the go for a keyboard/mouse or even both via a hub.

There is no doubt a market for the Xperia P and it’s easily one of the nicest looking devices with a few nice traits like the transparent navigation menu with backlight. The whitemagic software for the screen with amazing brightness levels for viewing outside. The Xperia P does cover a lot of the users needs and while other devices offer the same functionality and better performance for a little less. It does have a few features of its own.
