Amazon announce the Fire Phone: 4.7-inch IPS HD display, 2.2Ghz quad core CPU with 2GB of RAM

Amazon have taken to stage today and announced their own smartphone dubbed Fire Phone. It has long been expected and today we finally get all the details on the upcoming device. The hardware specs include a 4.7-inch IPS LCD Display with 1,280 x 720 resolution and an impressive 590nits of brightness for increased visibility in sunlight and Gorilla Glass 3. Inside we have a  2.2GHz Quad Core CPU with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Camera side of things we have a 13MP rear facing sensor with an f/2.0 lens and optical image stabilization. Amazon have also included dual Stereo speakers.

Amazing aren’t just releasing a phone for the sake of it, they are also including some impressive software features including a new service dubbed Firefly and it includes it’s own dedicated button for launching the app. It allows users to use the included camera to identify products such as DVD’s, Books, Games, Toys. It can also recognize phone numbers, URL’s, Addresses and more. The feature has built-in Amazon support, meaning users can find any product they scan with the on Amazon for purchasing, assuming it’s available on Amazon. Firefly also supports recognizing songs using the microphone as well.

The Fire Phone will also included a 3D interfacing that using motion and head tracking for gauging a persons perspective and represents information differently, we have see limited versions of this before, but the Fire Phone includes this throughout the device and allows for smoother performance. We have included the full specs below for your pleasure. The smartphone is now available pre-order in the US with pricing available with and without contract and ships on July 25th. No word on availability outside of the US, but hopefully it won’t be too long.
